Inclusive Dance School
Identity school of dance offers weekly dance and musical theatre classes for children and young adults with special educational needs and disabilities. Our highly trained and certified teachers have experience in teaching and performing various styles of dance including; Contemporary, Ballet, Street dance and Commercial as well Musical Theatre. All teachers are also Makaton and First aid trained.
Here at Identity school of dance, we have a passion for the art of dance and ensuring each individual here feels safe and included at all times while discovering their inner self as a dancer. Our mission at Identity school of dance is to provide students of all levels with more than just classes, but a unique experience in an enjoyable, inclusive setting without any barriers of learning, helping them strive towards their aspirations.

CHILDREN'S STREET DANCE
Our children’s Street Dance is very popular and age ranges from 4-12 years. In our classes students learn a range of performance skills and set choreography while developing skills in team work, turn taking as well as communication. Teachers provide a safe, inclusive and fun learning environment for students to develop their dance skills. Students have the chance of being awarded star of the week, as well as other incentives to promote engagement and positive behaviours.

YOUNG ADULTS STREET DANCE (14+)
Whether you’re looking to learn new dance moves or have developed a passion from TIKTOK. Here in our young adults class, students learn set choreography each week in the style of street dance. Students also get to develop their communication and social skills through meeting new friends, signing and playing a range of drama and dance games. Students will have the opportunity to perform at our end of term parties to their peers in other classes and parents/carers. This popular class continues to grow, with teachers committed to giving each individual a stimulating and engaging dance environment.

CONTEMPORARY OPEN CLASS (14+)
Contemporary dance classes are from the age of 14 years and are suitable for beginners/ intermediate level. Students will learn technique, choreography and develop a range of performance skills while developing social skills through meeting new students. Students will learn set choreography in which they will showcase at local events such as our annual summer show. There is no pressure to take part of competitions and this is an open weekly class.

ADULT STREET DANCE OPEN CLASS (16+)
Led by a dedicated team of trained street dance teachers, this class will have you on your feet in no time. Many of our dancers love taking this class, as it gives them the opportunity to learn new street dance movements/ choreography to upbeat pop songs and learn current, challenging choreography which students are able to showcase in local events, shows if they wish.
I.D STREET DANCE CREW
This class is a favourite among many of our students. Everyone loves the opportunity to explore a brand new street dance set each term in the styles of street dance. Students that access this session are treated as professional performers, and expectations are set from the start by our experienced dance directors. Our directors within this session offer bespoke training for each individual, as well as the promotion of effective group work. I.D have already had great success in their recent dance competitions including;

LIMITLESS MEGA CREW
Limitless mega crew is our newest crew to Identity which was created in September 2022.
Limitless train every week at an advanced level learning lots of new street styles to create a brand new set.
Limitless have already had great success including:
- 1ST place over 18 advance street crew 2022
- Performed at Birmingham new street for #purplelightup charity organisation
- 1st place over 18 mega crew May 2023.

Limitless are looking forward to competing in a range of competitions this year to showcase their amazing talent.

MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSES
We have both kids and senior musical classes which are every Thursday evenings.
Students learn a range of performance skills including; singing, dancing and acting. Students will work towards musicals and pantomines throughout the year. In March 2023 our musical theatre students took part in their first ever musical 'This is the greatest show' and look forward to starting a new musical from September onwards.
If you would like to be part of our shows in the future and love being on stage then this class is for you.
TALKING HANDS - MAKATON GROUP
This class is a new class starting from September. Students will learn a range of Makaton signs to a range of songs, developing their communication and social skills. Students will have the opportunity to perform at local events and performances.
EXERCISE WITH OPAL
If you are looking to develop your fitness, strength and mobility. Exercise with Opal is a weekly gym class based at Shrewsbury Town Football ground. Students will have access to all the gym equipment while taking part in a range of fitness classes each week suited for each learners ability.
SATURDAY STAGE SCHOOL
Our Saturday stage school is held once a month and this class will have you on your feet in no time from singing, dancing and acting. Many of our students love taking this class, as it gives them the opportunity to develop their performance and social skills further especially if you cannot commit every week to one of our weekly classes.Â

OPAL TREVOR
Owner and Teacher at Identity
Hello, my name is Opal.
I am the owner and dance teacher at Identity. I have been a performing arts/ dance teacher for over 5 years and have trained in the following dance styles:
Street
Commercial
Hip-Hop
Contemporary
Ballet
Lyrical
Freestyle

Before pursuing my career as a teacher, I previously studied GCSE Dance, BTEC Performing Arts and Dance, which developed on to completing BA Honours Degree in Dance. After graduating I begun my teaching journey in primary, secondary and FE College in both mainstream and SEND. I am currently a full time Performing Arts Teacher at Derwen College Specialist College in Gobowen Shropshire.
I am also a qualified gym instructor, first aider and fluent in Makaton completing levels 1,2,3 and 4 currently working towards being a tutor.

As a teacher, I understand the adrenaline when performing and I absolutely love to perform. I have previously worked with many dance artists, participating in workshops and performances. I was part of ZOO Nation Dance Crew auditioning, competing and touring for many dance music videos as an actress and dancer. I have competed in the British Dance organisation world championships being awarded 2nd place. I was also lucky enough to secure a contract working in Disney Land Paris as a character and parade performer for a year until I knew I wanted to become a full time teacher.

I believe that as a teacher and performer that; no matter your age, race, sex or ability - everyone deserves to achieve their aspirations.

My aim at Identity is to inspire the next generation by providing inclusive dance classes and unforgettable life time opportunities. Each student will feels safe, included, while they are supported to develop their performance and life skills to help them thrive throughout their lives.
